Mugen Monday - Seventeenth Edition
For Those Who Dare Dream.
Good things sometimes end up being cancelled, like Pandora Hearts, Btoom, or even No Game No Life or even our very dearly organized Hikari event - if you noticed from the previous Mugen Monday.
But seasons do come and pass, and that which came once must surely come again. Or so I said in a Spiel Anime meeting between our writers - how did we come about this particular sentence? We did so when I shared with my fellow colleagues how Anime just doesn’t do it for me anymore.
Much of this “doesn’t do it for me anymore” has to be taken back to the question of the OG Anime. Were things better back then? Growing up, my elder brother who is whooping 12 years older, used to say that the age he grew up in (90s) was just much better than the modern crap we have now.
Honestly, I could never fully emphasise to my full capacity how much I did not relate to him, until the recent phases of my life. Ever since Anime has become work, and I would say even much before that, I have become rather dispassionate about Anime.
Interestingly, I would like to share a few snippets of what happened in today’s Rush Hour session in our Spiel Anime meeting. (Spiel Anime hosts regular writers’ meeting where everyone gets together and write together, calling it Rush Hour.)
And when I speak of ‘I’, I truly wish to incorporate many others like me born in the early 20s or late 99s, who used to enjoy Anime to the core of their soul yet it just doesn’t spark their embers anymore. In speaking on behalf of such a team of well-bringers, one must question - are Anime of the elder era just much better? Has anime degraded over time?

Funnily, two of our writers - Suchetan and Rishiraj, broke out over a light-hearted banter having to do with why Sailor Moon is straight-up bull. Speaking with a crisp voice and an even crisp-er determination, Suchetan, in what he called his hot take, shared that Sailor Moon is an upright bull.
To which Rishiraj seemed enigmatically pissed, although quite enjoying the discussion about to ensue nonetheless. Mentions were made of Dragon Ball Z, which according to Suchetan, despite not being the peak of fiction was still quite amazing. Kanishma, another one of our fantastic writers, felt that her hot take was that Dragonball Z is outright bull.
Now do note that Suchetan did commit that Ben 10, according to him, was the peak of fiction. (Or was it Rishiraj? I forgot, but you get the main point).
Dragonball was truly a show worth all its weight in gold. Having been mesmerised by Dragonball Super, I do sigh a heavy one of grief. I would say, that in many aspects the plot elements of Dragonball Super may outweigh Z in some sense, yet when I look at what they have made of Goku and all the characters, and Krillin taking on Super Saiyan Blue, I would say no one ever downshifted their characters to such horrendous level as the writers of Dragonball Super.
That aside, Suchetan still does feel that a protagonist should not make him chew his ear (however that is possible is a philosophical postulate requiring empirical examinations), and Sailor Moon’s heroine does exactly that.
Do enjoy this week’s Mugen Monday. Til infinity and beyond. Oh, that wasn’t our tagline, I mean -
